HPA Donates Towards the Cholera Outbreak

DONATION TOWRADS THE CHOLERA OUTBREAK
On Friday 12th of October 2018, the Health Professions Authority (HPA) handed over hygiene supplies to the Honourable Minister of Health and Child Care, Dr Obadiah Moyo. This was the Health Professions Authority’s donation and contribution towards the fight against the cholera pandemic. The hand over was held at Beatrice Road Infectious Hospital Harare at a ceremony organised by the Ministry of Health and Child Care.
The Authority was represented by its Vice President Ms T. Wenyika, Deputy Secretary General Mrs C. Chimbwanda, Authority Member Mr D. Chibanda and Public Relations Officer Mrs L. Nkala.
The donated items included 1 000 x 750ml bottles of Domestos toilet cleaner and 2 375 x 750ml bottles of Sunlight dishwashing liquid, all worth $10 500.94. In her handing over remarks, Ms Wenyika said that the Authority was very much touched by the number of lives lost due to the cholera scourge. She added that one of the Authority’s mandate was to promote quality healthcare in health institutions to ensure patients safety and save lives. Ms Wenyika applauded the health professionals for the response they made with commitment and a willing heart to assist those who were affected by the cholera pandemic. “I am at a loss of words, I do not know how to thank our health professionals who put their lives in danger to save others. Well done!” she said.
Receiving the disinfectants, the Honourable Minister Dr Obadiah Moyo commended the Authority for their role in standard setting and putting systems in place to ensure that health institutions were compliant with the laws of the land. He said that the disinfectants would go a long way in improving hygiene and prevent the spread of the cholera bacteria in clinical settings.
“Do not think that your donation is too small, no, we are going to distribute these supplies to all areas of need and I can assure you that the impact is huge. It makes a big difference and as a Ministry we are grateful for your donation” he added.
The handover ceremony was attended by the Mayor of Harare, Councillor Hebert Gomba, Town Clerk, Engineer Hosiah Chisango, Acting Director of City Health Department, Dr Clemence Duri, officials from the Ministry of Health and Child Care, other supporting partners and journalist from the various media houses.
Standards Association of Zimbabwe and Norvatis (an American company) also donated blankets and medicines respectively, at the same event.
